Integration Services and Keyboard in Hyper-V

You know. The Integration Services Setup Disk (ISSD) in Hyper-V solves the problems with the keyboard and mouse. If you use RDP to control the machine, you had had them. isn´t it?

You can install everything in the Data Center, but , you will forget something.
So, When you install a new Windows 2003, XP etc, you can use the mouse before you install the Integration Services.

You can do:
a) If you use the ISSD, the windows lauchs a wizard, you can use the mouse then. The mouse focus is in the ISSD disk. You can finish the wizard and to restart the machine. The mouse will run well.d
b) You can maximize the RPD host server windows. You need to maximize the guest opertation system in Hyper-V (View-Full Scrren Mode ctrl+alt+del).Now you can use windows+e and you can see the explorer in the guest machine not in the host machine.

I have a HAL problem, but with the Windows XP SP2 I solved the problem. The Hyper-V searched for a file to the NIC.

I have a problem with te NIC. The legacy NIC in Hyper-V runs well.

When I installed the Integration Services, everyting goes well.

The Integration Services runs well. (I had a little doubt about that)

I downloaded IE8.


I used it, but he computer ask me about more memory.

For example, I use IE 7 and Maxthon browser.
The IE 7 has 8 tabs opened and the Maxthon browser 13 tabas opened
The memory is :


But in my lab, I installed IE 8 and I opened 4 tabs, and the IE 8 start up 4 iexplorer processes .
Each proccess spend 40k-50K. That is 200K!!!!!!!
I hope, this is a error in my lab. Otherwise , Nobody will use IE 8.

WPAD , DNS 2008 and UTM

We are planning to install Ironport WebFiltering.
Ironport doesn´t have the NLB ( network load balancing) or something similar to set up HA.
They speak about to configure a .pac file. (proxy file).
You need to enter wpad.mycompany.com in the DNS.
Ironport doesn´t work with 2008 AD.
We had a problem with the wpad entry in the dns.
This entry is in the block list.

I try to start the SCVMM but it doesnt work.
I am thinking about something, but SCVMM doesnt give me any id error, or another information.

What happens?

My SQL server was down. The databse was there. SCVMM dont advise me.

I start the SQL server, and the SCVMM rus well.

If my SQL was destroy, you need to do:

Hyper-V machine with Netapp iSCSI and Equallogic iSCSI.

I have 2 iSCSI SANS.
I have a hosts server with LUNS from both iSCSI SAN
I use the microsoft iScSI Iniciator.

I have 2 VM in Hyper-V in the LUNs.

The Equallogic iSCSI has the LUNs to connect when the server reboot. (iscsi options)
In the Netapp iSCSI is off the option.

When I reboot the machine, the server doesnt connect with the iSCSI. No Equallogic LUNs, no Netapp LUNs. So, the VM in the LUNs disappared.

I need to force the option "reconnect to reboot" in both conecctions to solve the problem.

SCVMM 08 DC migration and IP error

I have a Domain Controller in a Hyper-V machine.
I migrated a VM to another Hyper-V.
If I migrate a server machine (2k3, ó 2k8), I dont have any problem.
I have problems if I use Vlans. (see http://santospardos.blogspot.com/2009/01/scvmm08-vlan-id-migration-error.html).

I migrated the DC (Domain Controller), I got an error.
The DC was a lab. ufffffff.
I had to remove the NIC and to put the NIC again.
In a server machine, I dont have fear.
Ufff, To do that in a DC.

I put the NIC in the Hyper-V optiosn.
I run the VM again and the domain lab rus well. But It is a lab.

Can I do the same in the production domain?

Anyone , any hep.

SCVMM 08 VLAN ID migration error

I have 29 VM with Hyper-V.
I am changing some of them with SCVMM08 migrate option.
The source server doest have a trunk.
The target server has a trunk.
If I migrate a VM without Vlan id to another server without vlan id, I dont have any problem. The migrate wizard inside SCVMM07 runs well.
If I migrate a VM withou VLAN ID to another server with VLAN ID, I have a problem.
The VM migrate, but I need to assign the VLAN ID by hand.
Is there any option to do that with SCVMM08?

SCVMM Migration error

I need to move a VM with W2003.
I always got the same error.


I think, the problem is because is a legacy Virtual Server 2005 VM
I put the machine by hand from VS2005 to Hyper-V moving the files.
I need to move the VM from Hyper-V 01 to Hyper-V 02 but I have this error.


Probably, I will move the vhd file and I recreate the server.
But, I will need to activate de windows again arrrrggggg!!!!! or not. W2008 ask me for activation. Will I activate the w2003 again? or not?

Microsoft Synthetic Ethernet Port error.

I have a DL380G5, 22G, 80G HDD.

I have Hyper-V with some VMs.

I have a lot of problems:

a) I switch on the VM. I got this error: Microsoft Synthetic Ethernet Port error.



b) I stop the Hyper-V service. All VMs configured disapared.
c) The VM never switch on.

My first thought was the Hyper-V version.
I got the last version with all updates.

Finally. The problem was the TrendMicro Antivirus.
I uninstalled it, all everythig goes well.
I think, It occurs with all antivirus.

Migration SCVMM 08, Hyper-V, AMD and Intel error

I have 30 VM.
One host is a SUN X4100 with AMD CPU. Yes yes, a SUN machine for Windows!!!!!!!.
Another machine is a HP DL380G5 with Intel.
I need to migrate one VM from one host to other.
I got this error.
ATTENTION: Unable to migrate the virtual machine XXXX because the processor is not compatible with the host XXXXX.
I did the migration by hand. I copied the .vhd file and I recreate the VM.
But, this procedure has a problem. You need validate W2008 again through the Internet.



I got another problem. The Hyper-V versión was different.
I looked through the internet de KB to migrate from 18016 to 18125 version. After this upgrade I did some VM migration without problems.

Peformance SQL 2008 Cluster and Windows 2008 iSCSI SAN

I setup a Windows 2008 Cluster with SQL 2008 cluster over Equallogic iSCSI SAN.
I switch the node and I lost a ping.

You can read the cmd box. The yellow line is the ping losted.

Yes, Yes. The SQL instance was 13-14 seconds down.

Yes, Yes . The SQL was just installed, so, I havent any database.

I am going to set up this lab with Hyper-V. That is. SQL in Hyper-V machines to measure the performance as well.

I am going to test this lab with a radio database. Xframe is the piece of software that we use in our radio company . I will test the same.

Windows 2008 and SQL 2008 in Cluster.

Hi everyone

This lab runs very well.

But, I would like to share some problems to set up this lab:

a) You need .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. If SQL Wizar doesnt launch the setup, you cand installed from the SQL DVD. DVD:\x64\Redist\DotNetFrameworks\dotNetFx35setup
b) Same for Windows Installer 4.5. DVD:\x64\Redist\Windows Installer\x64\Instmsi45
c) You need install Powershell as well from Features console.
d) I got a IP duplicate error. Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface got the guilty.
Verifying that there are no duplicate IP addresses between any pair of nodes.Found duplicate IP address . . . . .

I switched off the teredo Tunneling ghosted NIC.
I uninstalled the teredo tunneling ghosted NIC.
Device manager NICs and ncpa console must show the same devices.


d) I got a warning about binding NICs.

NOTE: You need to push Alt+N in English or Alt+A to show the advanced menu.
You need to enter in the advanced features and change the binding order.





After these problems, the installation was right.


PS: The Windows 2008 cluster was with a witness share resource and the sQL saves in a iSCSI Equallogic Dell SAN.

I was installing Windows Serve 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 in Cluster.

Windows Server 2008 R2 was well.
Cluster W2008 R2, was well.
SQL 2008 Clusterd was bad, very bad.

At the end of the process I got this error:

I didn´t find a solution
I think is for Windows 2008 R2.

The same lab over Windows 2008 runs well, very well.

My first fall when I starting to work:
Error: SQL Server 2008 Setup requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 to be installed.

If the W2K8 is clean (nothing installed), the SQL wizard runs well.

My server belongs a lab environment. The server has many things installed.
I tried to install NET Framework 3.5 SP1 with the installer downloaded from Microsoft Website.
I have NET framework 3.5 in the server and I have the same error. (see picture

Solution:
I installed everything from the DVD bye my self.

Reboot Host Machine and Reboot Virtual Machines.

We have a W2008Datacenter with 20 VM.

We have de DC of our company like VM and others types of servers (w2k3 and w2k8)

We need to reboot the Host Machine (upgrade software, upgrade hardware, whatever).

What Happens with the VM?

We dont save the state machines

We dont close the VMs

We dont do nothing when we turn off or turn on the Host Machine.

Hyper-V closes and opens the VM without problem.

Example: We have this host machine (SW2K8LAB01)

We have 9 VM in our lab. The SW2K8LABDC01 is the DC for de LAB domain.

The host machine is a server in this domain.

I reboot SW2K8LAB01 and the Hyper-V left the VMs same before the reboot.

Windows 2008 SP2 Beta, 2 errors.

I installed SP2 Beta in a W2008.

I installed it through TS, and I lost control.

a)
I need to change the IP to DHCP and IP Static again to get IP control.
b)
I lost my three iSCSI SAN connections. I need to Refresh and to connect again the LUNs.

I hope, it will be the SP2 beta.
Otherwise, to set up SP2 in the Windows 2008 in production, it will be a nightmare.

This post speak about Host Clustering and Guest Clustering with Microsoft Hyper-V and Windows 2008.
I did a firts test with Iometer to test disk performance with the Equallogic iSCSI V.2.
I disable DEP for Iometer.

I didnt upload any picture about Iometer because I hope you know this piece of software. ;-)

I configured iSCSI options in the Equallogic iSCSI SAN and the Windows 2008 .

I did installed any software from Equallogic (Dell). I used the Windows 2008 options.

I configured 3 LUNs. I will use only one for the test.

I did the performance test with Iometer in a physical machine.

I started the lab with 1 DC, and 2 servers in Hyper-V.
I configured iSCSI options in the VM server. The configuration is the same. In this virtual machine I configured only one LUN.

I did the performance test with Iometer again.

NOTE: This picture is the performance window from iSCSI Equallogic SAN. I need to study the logs from Iometer ;-).

The iSCIS performance is very similar with the host machine and the Hyper-V machine.

Maybe 6-7% less of performance. I will read the results in detail.

The idea is to set up a lab with Exchange 2007. One lab with physical machines. Another with virtual (Hyper-V) machines.
In this lab , I will run LoadGen (Exchange Stress Tool).

Trend micro Virtual Appliance in Hyper-V

We are looling for a Web filtering and an antivirus in the DMZ.
We have Fortigate, and we are testing, PineApp, FinJan, WebSense, Ironport, and so on.

Trendmicro gave us a Trend micro virtual appliance (with Red Hat).
We don´t have VMWare.
The Tred micro consultant did know Hyper-V.
We installed the Trend micro virtual appliance with Hyper-v.

All DC (3) are VM.
Is these a good idea?
We have problems with the windows time.
Our 1DC is the PDC. But it is a VM, so, sometimes we had a bad hour.
It depends on the BIOS host machine.

We are testing an iSCSI SAN, Hyper-V, Exchange 2007, Windows 2008 ... to set up new infraestructures in my company. (CARTV http://www.cartv.es/).
We have tested Windows 2008 with Hyper-V, Quick Migration in a Equallogic PS iSCSI SAN.
Our LAB:
2 PC Desktops HP 5800 (We dont have 2 servers for our LAB ;-( . Both servers are a Windows 2008 clusters. SW2KLAB01 (node 1), sW2K8LAB02 (node 2). Both with Hyper-V role. Both nodes have 2 LUNs from iSCSI Equallogic 10G and 500G.
1 DC. Domain controler SW2K8LABDC01. It is a VM in node 1.
1 Windows 2008 like a NPS role. It is a VM in node 1 too. (SW2K8LAB03)

First test: I would like to probe the new Windows 2008 cluster, with Q disk (quorum) and the share resource (without Q disk). Both tests were well.

PS: Performance test with 2 desktops as a Windows 2008 servers. My NICs dont have TOE, so probably I will improve my performance with 2 new servers.
PSS: The pictures are in Spanish. My lab is Spanish Servers. (and my English is not good ;-) ).

You need to install XP SP3 or RDP 6.1 ( KB952230 ).
And you need to delete the Regedit these entries:

TS Gateway

Windows 2008 y TS Gateway.

Pues hay que reconocer que funciona bien.

Tenemos un TSG en la DMZ, abrimos el puerto 80, redirigimos todo el trafico de quien queremos para dentro.

Abriendo solo el 80 podemos hacer RDP.



Breve explicación:

Instalación TSG en DMZ.

Creación de un certificado (en este caso local) es para pocos usuarios.

Instalación de certificado en clientes.

Configuración de RDP 6.1 para atacar al TSG publicado en DMZ.

Configurar permisos a máquinas tanto en DMZ como en TSG.



Cuesta un poco pero realmente está muy bien. Hay que reconocerlo

Virtualización con Hyper-V y Trunk Cisco

Si tenemos 4 NICS en un servidor podemos poner varias máquinas y tenemos tarjetas de red suficientes. Y si no las tenemos?

La configuración es:

a) Configuración Hyper-V para que la máquina física (host) tenga acceso a la VLAN.




















b) Configuración de una de las máquinas virtuales en otra VLAN.



















c) Configuración de la electrónica de red, en este caso Cisco.









Mas datos, y especificaciones en concreto en comentarios si alquien quiere.

En configuraciones de red si tienes 4 NIC en un servidor como los SUN, pueo poner dirferentes máquinas por cada una de las tarjetas.




Y si no tengo tantas NICs?










La configuración es la siguiente:
Configuración de Hyper-V a nivel de máquina. Es decir, hay que poner la VLAN asignada a la NIC física e ese servidor para que la máquina física tenga acceso a la red.

Google Chrome or Maxthon.

Hace años descrubrí Maxthon. El mejor navegador de internet (antes tenía Avant Browser). Google invirtió 1 millon de dolares en este navegador y ahora saca Chrome?.
Si por lo menos fuera mejor.
Donde están los gestos de ratón, los complementos, las teclas rápidas, los grupos...

Estoy probando-instalando SonicWall 4060.
También hemos evaluado Firebox 60, y StoneGate.

Los 3 appliance me parecen muy buenos.
Para el que no sepa lo que son, son dispositivos de seguridad que engloban unpoco de todo dependiendo de lo que susbscribas.

Firewall - VPN - Gestor de contenidos - VLAN - VoIP - Anvirus etc

Sé que Norton y Mcafee tambien poseen este tipo de aparatos.
