You need to get the DPMAgentInstaller_X64.exe or x86 from DVD.

And you need to write: DpmAngetInstaller My_DPM_sErver_name. See the following picture

But, if you have the agent installed, but in the MMC the server doesn’t appear, you can register again:

SetDpmServer.exe –dpmServerName My_DPM_Server_Name from the client server.

Infrastructure:

2x HP Blade BL460 G6 24G = Host Cluster

iSCSI LeftHand P 4000. Version 8.1

Several Guest cluster in Windows Server 2008 R2 with CSV

I have 8 Guest Cluster Server (2 or 3 Node per guest cluster) inside the iSCSI LeftHand

With DPM 2007 agent, I could move any group without problem.

With DPM 2010 agent, When I move a cluster group, the disk is always “online pending” and after 8-10-12 minutes the disk fail. And the cluster is down.

I am installing a W 2008 SP2 x86

Why x86. It is for a Printer cluster. I have another in x64, but the printer drivers don’t work well.

Many companies doesn’t deploy in x64 yet.

In this x86 cluster, I got the error

I have many servers in English.

These servers are in Spanish for techical problems.

The wizard gave the 0x80073712 error.

After upgrade through windows update, and to install .NET 3.5.1 SP1. Everything went well.

We installed DPM 2010 to save VM in CSV disk.

NOTE:

You need to install…

· Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V
Before you can protect a computer running Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V, you must apply the following updates:

· For a clustered or non-clustered computer running Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V, apply the hotfix described in Knowledge Base article 975354: A Hyper-V update rollup package is available for a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=186556).

· For a clustered computer running Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V, also apply the hotfix described in Knowledge Base article 975921: You may be unable to perform certain disk-related operations after an exception when a hardware provider tries to create a snapshot in Windows Server 2008 R2 or in Windows 7 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=186558).

We have XenDesktop 4.

The machines are in a WS08R2 CSV Cluster.

The machines in node1 connect with XenDesktop 4

The machines in node 2 didn’t connect with XD4.

We look at the VMM08R2

The node 2 give us these error.

But the WS08 server runs well. The hyper-V R2 runs well.

But, The machines in node 2 didn’t connect with XD4.

The only solution was restart Node 2.

After these, Everything went well.

Role of the Enterprise Architect

I have read several blogs over the past few months arguing over the role of the Enterprise Architect.  Architect and architecture means many things to many people.  Here is my opinion of  what an Enterprise Architect (EA) is.

The EA is responsible for understanding the business mission, strategy, and processes and creating an IT technology strategy that enables the business to meet its goals.  In other words, the EA is responsible for making IT an enabler and not a cost center.

To accomplish this, the EA must excel is the following areas:

• Leadership
• Change management
• Communication
• Technology
• Business knowledge
• Financial analysis
• Business processes
• IT governance
• Infrastructure
• Security
• People management
• Negotiation
• Vendor management
• Presentation skills
• Coaching and mentoring
• R&D

Many self proclaimed EAs are extremely bright but lack in many of these areas.  Notice that programming skills was not mentioned.  If the EA is developing software, he/she is probably not fulfilling the role as described above.  The EA should have a staff of talented sr. developers who can turn the vision into solutions.

It takes a rare breed to fit the bill of an EA.  I have had the luxury of working with many brilliant developers and designers over the years.  Many of them struggle communicating technical topics to non technical people.  Others focus so much on technology that they fail to align technology with key business drivers.

I have read many blogs that slam EA's who do not code.  These folks obviously have a different definition of EA then the one I described.  My response to them is that there is a huge difference between being an architect and being an EA. 

There are many different types of architects.  I will categorize them into three groups: Solutions Architects, Infrastructure Architects, and Enterprise Architects.
